When will I stop regretting this surgery?

Recommended Posts

Cari, yes I'm taking omeprazole once a day...also taking Sucralfate and Maalox when needed. Thanks for asking. Sometimes it's just nice to talk about it rather then hold everything inside! [emoji4]

For me it was at least 3 months. You are going through the grieving process.

Sent from my phone, please forgive brevity and misspelling

yeah, what he said. ^

This could be a real possibility.

Please reach out to a friend, clergy, a confidant . It will help. I promise.

I regret the whole surgey. I'm extremely dehydrated and absolutely miserable. I see no light at the end of the tunnel.

have you tried eating sugar free Popsicles? They honestly satiated my thirst early on when it was painful to sip!

I am frustrated with eating slow but by no means am I regretting the surgery....after having a c-section and a hysterectomy the recovery is very much easier than those....I am 10 days post op....do I miss certain foods for sure! But I would seek counselling if you are extremely depressed....and I am also in need of a hobby besides eating! I wish you the best on this journey.....it will get better for you I hope.

I feel the same way. I was sleeved on April 5th. I was happy and now I'm miserable. I have no energy and I feel like such an idiot for doing this surgery,

After major surgery some people experience Surgery Blues or depression as well. You're body has been through a trauma. I've had 9 surgeries and I feel depressed after.

Are you diagnosed with depression or anything? I am and I think surgery makes it worse.

Having people that have had surgery already around you will help.

I was well prepared before surgery. I started researching 4 years ago and I did start going to the appointments for it 4 years ago, but I had postpartum depression and was told I had to take counseling for 1 year. So I stepped back and didn't start again until 1 year ago and here I am 18 days post up gastric bypass.

Yes I still researched all those years and learned as much as I could. I met 3 people who had the same surgery and a few others who will be having it, but let me say that we did not know what it's really like until now that we have our own journey. It is different for everyone. Try meeting people with the surgery, attend support groups, and have counseling.

I'm 5 days post op Gastric sleeve. The first couple days were rough. But each day that goes by I'm feeling a little better and able to drink a little more Water. I would go in to see your doctor and address these concerns!! You're probably dehydrated and need IV fluids????

I know.

I know words don't help much.

I know you are feeling alone in your misery.

I know you feel tired. I know your energy loss seems overwhelming.

I know you feel like you're your own worst enemy.

I know you feel like you've made a mistake having your surgery.

I know you are feeling that you have "failed one more time".

I know you want to wail at yourself--or just anyone and everyone.

I know you're hurting inside and out, upside down and right side up

I know.

I also know:

You can't "undo" the sleeve.

I know you will have to reach deep down within yourself and find your determination and inner strength.

I know you have to write down all of the reasons you had WLS to begin with. I know you have to read that to yourself many many times during the day--out loud.

I know that prayer can't hurt.

I know that at one time you wanted to see yourself in the mirror as you see yourself in your heart.

I know that crying --even wailing loudly helps.

I know that walking/exercising in whatever manner you can to the point when you can think of nothing except trying to breath helps to get the endorphins flowing.

I know that sometimes a new hobby to concentrate on and keep your hands and mind busy helps.

I know because I've been there. At times--still am.

I finally know that if you can do this WLS , then so can I.

Shall we-- together?

Prayers going up for the both of us.

I am about 8 weeks post-op, and I will say that on the negative side, I never used to have discomfort or nausea after eating, and though it's not severe, I do experience something negative pretty frequently, and wish my sleeve had the capacity to eat healthy portions, not kiddie portions.

However, before I lost 55lb, my joints were bothering me going down stairs, I labored around and breathed heavily after very little exertion. I had some early markers of diabetes. Overall, I feel much better now and look better as well, and I accept the tradeoff as worthwhile.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
