Severe lower back pain

Recommended Posts

I will be two weeks post-op this Tuesday. For a few days now, I have had a really bad pain in my lower back. My prescription Tylenol works to knock it out but I feel like I'm only taking it for back pain and pain from my stomach. I do have a little pain directly in front of that on the front side but it feels more like my esophagus instead of my stomach.

I'm waiting on my surgeon to call me back. Has anyone experienced this?

The best thing for back pain is to walk and move around. I know it hurts but trust me, it's the only way. It's common to experience back pain when either losing weight or gaining weight. Your body is adjusting to the new changes.

Thank you so much for your reply, I just had a crying episode but the doctor said the same thing. I have to muster up some energy and get to it. Thanks again

Your back may hurt because you're sleeping differently too.

Yes, I laid on the floor last night with a heating pad under me and it helped tremendously

Have you been opening your bowels with the pain meds from op. I have a bad back which is made worse if I not have regular bowl movements.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by opening with pain meds but I have not had a bowel movement since 2 days post-op, I am now 14 days post-op and I do believe once I have a good bm my tummy and my back will feel much better. Thankfully I have a follow up appt with my surgeon tomorrow.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
