Hello there! I am new to the site and scheduled for surgery next week. I had a question and wanted to introduce myself first. I am really looking forward to the surgery and wanted to get some experiences from others on what to expect. I am not real familiar with the forum and I am thinking I need to go over to pre op and ask my question so I am headed there now! Hope to hear from someone. Have a great night!

I'm scheduled for 9/19--so whatever folks tell you will be good for me, too.

Ask away!

And, welcome!

Hello Angeleyes, I am scheduled for the 16th. Where are you located? I cant believe how quickly it has come up. This site has been helpful, I am making a list of the things everyone recommends and going to go get everything Monday so I am all set! Oh yes, and I am doing laundry like a madwoman today:whoo:How long since your decision to have the procedure to surgery date?

Hi Rhonda, I am also very new. This whole thing has moved very quickly for me I had my initial evauluation on July 30th, my surgeon visit is scheduled for August 14th and my surgery date is scheduled for August 16th. So I am planning for surgery but havent had my surgeon visit yet. My best friend had the lap band done about four years ago so I am pretty familiar with her experiences and I was looking for more information and this site has been great. I hope you get the information you are looking for this seems like the right place to start.

AzGirl - I am located in Ohio. I am having the band done in Cincinnati. I have been researching weight loss alternatives for well over a year and have researched the band extensively. Actually I had my consult two weeks ago, my psych visit, and a seminar and decided to go ahead. Having hard time with pro-op diet. Stomach hurts and everything going right through me if you know what I mean. I too am going this week to stock up. I am hoping to be ready ready ready!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
