Feeling odd eating at restaurants

Recommended Posts

it does get easier! like others have said, i either order something to split with hubby, order from the kids menu or order something that would re-heat well for leftovers. most places have been super awesome at accommodating my new lifestyle. i know someone else mentioned Golden Corral. that is my oldest sons favorite place and he always pics it. they let me get the buffet at the kids meal pricing! the last time i went i got a spoonful of their tuna salad and then a piece of the salmon and it was so good I've been thinking about it for a while now! they also have the option to weigh your plate for to-go pricing so that may end up cheaper option. they have good Soups as well. i know at cracker barrel i get the kids meal grilled chicken tenders with green Beans and it is too much but i can take the rest home! i mostly still just stick to Proteins if we have to eat out. I'm always the first one done eating (even while eating super slowly) so i just make conversation unless everyone is non-talkative and then thats when games on your phone come in handy! bahahahahah just kidding.

On post op day 6 I dined at a Mexican café and ordered Caldo Tlalpeño. The hardest part was not sipping any Water out of habit. The savory broth tasted amazing. I also had some cheese and avocado that was in the Soup but let it melt in my mouth. Pretty much 80% of the soup was taken home, which I pureed and still tastes amazing. Luckily I never felt nausea post-op.

I'm 9 months out, but often share food with my husband or will order an entree and share with one of my kids. I have been known to just order a side, soup/chili, or salad. No shame. Like others have said, you're in control. I'm not ashamed to ask for a to go box. Just means that I have leftovers for the next few days, or will bring it home and a kid or grandparent will eat it the next day.

If you're still feeling sick after eating maybe best to wait until you don't feel nauseous while eating.

i have eaten at restaurants a few times and i've gotten used to only eating an appetiser - though garlic bread still tempts me!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
