Fatigue.... 5 months post op

Recommended Posts

Anyone have ongoing fatigue ? I am 5.5 months postop. Have lost 40 pounds, slow loser.

But my biggest problem is I am just so tired!!!!!!

Wondering if anyone else feels fatigued and if you think that is because of eating very low calories?

It could very well be that you are both losing more slowly than you might otherwise do, and that your fatigue, is due to not eating enough. How much are you getting in each day? Do you exercise? If so, how much?

It might be because I am eating too little but I'm scared to eat more because I don't want to put on and I am already really losing so very slowly. My surgeon said to eat only two tiny meals per day, and not to worry about how much Protein. It's very different from what I'm reading on these boards. I have been trying to exercise but seem to be so tired that it's hard to even get up and do what I need to do in the day let alone exercising.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback.

Odd your Dr"s advice about meals and protein; contradicts totally what I was told. 3 lite meals plus 2 snacks; 80 grams Protein, 64 oz Water, around 1200 calories/day.

I would double check with your Dr. and maybe get a 2nd opinion

I was told 5-6 small meals and concentrate on Protein. Two tiny meals is not enough. This is probably the reason for the slower loss and feeling tired. Talk to a nutritionist with Bariatric Surgery experience. You need to eat more and get enough protein.

Wow, your surgeon's instructions are completely counter to what my surgeon recommends.

Make sure you are getting enough Protein and at least 64 ounces of fluids. My Protein target is 100 grams a day.

Two tiny meals and not enough protein is a recipe for disaster as far as I know.

It sounds like you are experiencing fatigue because of it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
