Shortie Porties--Banders that are short!

Recommended Posts

If you are short, you know , that we carry and lose weight differently

than people of "normal" stature!! Therefore, I figured a thread dealing with short people would be good. Seems like it takes longer to notice weight loss but only a milli second to notice when we gain weight!!

I am 5'. Yip, that's it just straight up 5 feet!

Calling all you "Shortie Porties!":D

I have been grumbling about this very subject all afternoon.....I went shopping today. Everything is too short, of course, and there is not one alteration lady left in captivity in our area - even the dry cleaners can't hired one. Why do the manufacturers think that just because you have a 'generous' waist, you have legs like an Amazon? !!

I'm 5'2" and sure isn't much space to pack a lot of poundage into.

Yes, 3/4 sleeves are perfect! Also, I loved whenever the capri came back!! Many of the large waisted capris will come to my ankle , therefore, I am able to wear them to school. I will be so glad that the clothes that are made for short people will fit again!!

It seems like we always have to lose twice as much as taller people before anyone can tell there is a difference! lol

OK ladies, prepare to feel tall: I'm 4'11", so quit complaining, LOL! I used to be a tall 5 foot, but with the weight gain (to 203 lbs) came the "degenerative disc" back problems and I lost an inch in height. :frusty:

BUT in Oct I get my band, things are gonna change! I can't wait to buy clothes I actually like. Imagine not having to hem everything you purchase. And high heels will be so much fun again!

Hi,

I'm 5'1 and finishing up my testing. I was shocked to find out what a healthy weight BMI is for my height. I would have thought that to be anorexic.

Great thread, hope it keeps going

Hello I am 5'1/4" (got to have that 1/4")!! I am also short for my weight!

I have the same problem and as I lose weight things are getting longer, like pants that are now baggy seem longer, does that make sense???? I do have someone in town that does alterations and it is costing me a fortune. I buy suits for work and when I am in the store....I look at the price and add in how much it is going to cost to hem the pant and shorten the sleeves!

Here is the good thing though, I had to drop off one of my suits to get the pants take in too. I didn't mind so much paying to have it taken in instead of out!!!!!

I was just in ashley stewart and I tried on this dress.

I'm 5ft2 244 and I looked like aunt sally's cousin sweeping floors with my dress.

Just awful.

I try different pants on and I have to roll up every pair of pants I get except for capris.

I even put rubber bands under the bottom and fold the pants under.

I got that from my 11yr old daughter and my co-workers.

I'm very petite with 62 inch bow hips and a large put a drink on my ass.

Lets not talk about my lower stomach that looks like a kangaroo pouch.

The only thing that is little on me is my hands, arms and legs.

I love my shape.

Just not the fat that comes along with it!

But I dont think anyone is looking for a super sized beyonce shaped woman.

When I lose weight though I look fabulous!

I can't wait until I am banded!

I'm 5'1 1/2 and I'm very protective of that 1/2"!

Ladies, I can tell you first hand that this gets better. It's one of the great joys of being banded for a while and starting to see the smaller sizes. Once you get to single digits, which you ALL will at our meager stature, things start to be cut to our length! It's so fabulous. I went outlet shopping today and was so happy to be in a size where the length worked as well as the width.

sbee, I can really identify with your comment about thinking a normal-by-the-charts BMI seems unrealistic (and anorexic). But then when you get closer and closer to it, it doesn't seem so unreasonable any more. It's super strange. For my BMI to be "normal" (at 5'2 because, again, I round my height UP!) I need to get to or below 136. Doesn't that seem ridiculous? Well, sitting at 157, I can tell you, I could still lose 20+ with no problem. There's more truth to those charts than I ever thought, my whole life.

I love my band.

I'm 5'3.5" with short legs and long (relatively) torso. I have been overweight forever and don't have a clue what I will look like at goal, but I am anxious to see.

My doc was telling me about a patient of his that lost over a 100lbs and gained a couple of inches in height. His weight was pulling him down, damn that gravity! Maybe I will be fortunate to gain some height rather than weight.

Well I was beat to the punch! I was going to come in and post something to share my signature with you lovelies

When I saw this thread I read the name to my mom and she asked if she was a shorty porty. I exlplained the band has a port and that was the reference. She's overweight but losing, and not banded.

It's funny how a lot of us aren't happy with what we've got, huh? For instance, I'd LOVE to be 5'9" but it's not gonna happen (probably? That patient gaining some height inches is inspiring!!) but at the same time, I'm thankful I'm 5'7", which I know a lot of people here and gonna be like "Oh shut up, you!!" about LOL

For the poster who noticed things getting longer on her as she loses: I hope to have the same problem! I have faily long legs, but the pants I can find are short on me (I'm not much of a loser yet!) but instead of having a belly sticking out to make the fabric go out and then down... without it going out, the only place for it to go is down! Holy run-on sentence, bat man!

Anyway, good on you all for working with what you've got, and I hope my signature picture can bring you a smile

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
