Pain from fill

Recommended Posts

I was banded on January 29th 2016 and got my third fill last week. It was only .7ccs. My first 2 fills were 2ccs each done by the same lovely nurse. This last one was done by a different nurse who jabbed the needle into what I believe must be scar tissue around my port. The first nurse never hurt me, in fact, I barely felt a thing. I am still having sharp pains when my pants or anything presses on that area. Has anyone experienced anything like this? I plan to request my original nurse from now on. I'm scheduled for another appointment next week and am not sure I could handle the needle.

My fills were always performed by my surgeon and only one was a little painful. Otherwise it's just a pinch. I think experience and art play a part in injections.

For example, I've had blood drawn many times and on a handful of occasions it was very painful. I really appreciate an experienced artful phlebotomist.

if the pain does not go away or persists..go back to the surgeon. Take my advice. I most likely got an infection around my port after my last fill from a local surgeon,..not my original surgeon..and this was with a nurse for the first time. I have been banded for 14 years and have had at least 10 fills over that time from three different surgeons..this was first time down by an RN and I NEVER had any pain afterwards. I recall her possibly jabbing me twice to get to port. Two days later I was in tremendous pain..I could barely walk..long story and a few months down the line..I had to head back to Mexico to get care from my band surgeon..what I thought was my port had moved as I had sharp hard pain at my waistline..turns out to be massive infection around the port area! My band was checked for erosion just in case and went home..two weeks later had to go back and have port removed as my body was not healing up. Doctor was thinking it was my body attempting to heal all foreign objects including the port. Going to go back in 2-3 months to replace. So NEVER ever ignore pain. Hoping you already resolved this and no longer in pain..so hopefully this is just a future warning. Insist on seeing the doctor if pain gets worse or persists. I never had pain even after first fills shortly after surgery..you should be all healed form original surgery by then..

Hope all is well..don't mean to scare you with my store..but lesson learned...now always going back to Mexico..these doctors here have been nothing but trouble for me.

I went back to my doctors office and requested the original nurse and all was well. It took 2 weeks for the pain to go away from the previous fill. This last one was great. No pain and I've not needed another fill in over a month. I think I'll be at this amount for a while. Can't imagine any more being put in or I'd be too tight.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
