My 7th day today.. I woke up 22 pounds down.

Things I've decided today:

1) to get out of this house

2) to finally hold conversation with people

3) I am completely a failure with the Proteins Vitamins provided by my surgeons office

4) I'm near dehydration

5) I've drank drank drank and drank some more

6) I decided to get some Gummy viatamins, Calcium, and B12. It may not be as much as in theres, but if I can't take there's without the fear of barfing... some is better than none, right?

I can highly recommend the Multivitamin patch from PatchMD, and the berry citrus chewable Calcium from opurity. It took me a long time to find alternatives, as I have a VERY sensitive gag reflex and a whiny stomach that complains about most things I put into it in terms of meds and supplements. Hope this helps! Keep on keepin' on. It all gets easier.

The three most important requirements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are meeting your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. But the first few weeks after surgery, your body is in a major heal mode and it is hard to meet these requirements. So just keep trying and eventually you should get there.

Protein - There are a variety of Protein shakes and protein supplements available. Experiment and find one you can tolerate. You don't have to like it, just tolerate it. I found that Muscle Milk Light (vanilla Creme) Protein powder blended with Water with a half a banana worked well for me.

Fluids - This includes Water, milk, the liquid you use in your Protein Shakes, the broth in Soups. After surgery my taste buds changed and I found water no longer tasted good. But with some experimentation, I found that Crystal Light worked. Later I began using fine English teas.

Vitamins - Your body no longer synthesizes Vitamins from you food, so unless you supplement your vitamins, your body will revolt. It is also important to get the right kind. My nutritionist does not allow gummy vitamins, so you may want to check to make sure that you select from the right options. If you are having problems tolerating Vitamin B12 sublingual tablets, there is alway the shots. One shot is good for a full month. But you will need a prescription called in from you surgeon's office. And you have to give that to yourself or one of your family members must give you the shot.

We are same just about on the same timeline lovely lady!! Firstly, yes you DO need to get out of the house and push yourself to do as many "normal" things as possible. As you know i felt like you did for days but the cloud lifted a couple days ago and I pushed myself to do some shopping yesterday. It was good to walk about and good to get out. As for the food and vitimins - YES YES order the Patches - I have!!! AND buy a tasteless Protein powder and make your own smoothly or add to Soup - you get FAR more Protein in this way without having to drink as much.

Hang in there! you are doing great - it is MUCH harder than I ever anticipated, and Im sure you feel the same way.

The only way I could get my Protein was Isopure zero carb clear Protein, but not everyone likes the taste. Fluid is most import. Protein will keep you from loosing myself. At my first nutritionist appointment I managed to loose 20 pounds of fat, not any muscle thanks to meeting protein requirements. My weight loss may have been slower because of this, but long term you want to conserve all the muscle you can.

I take Baritrack Vitamins. They are powder, like a pixie stick.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
