Chelle Bean 51 Posted April 27, 2016 So how many carbs per day are we supposed to be at? I heard it should be no more than 22 is this correct?
Proud2BMe 1,016 Posted April 27, 2016 It depends upon what stage you are in. At goal you can increase your carbs slowly to maintain your weight. During the active weight loss phase you should eat as little carbs as possible with the emphasis on Protein. For my pre-op diet I was allowed up to 25 grams of carbs a day but I likely didn't even come close to that as I was very careful not to eat carbs.
reree6898 1,164 Posted April 27, 2016 Most NUTs will all have varying guidelines on that. Mine didn't give me a number to follow but I find that for me I do well with real low carbs one day (like less then 20ish) then a bit higher the next (like 30-35). When I do this it seems to help me keep losing. I am seven months out tomorrow and have only had one stall that only lasted a week. I have had some weeks with higher loss and some with lower but just that one time with no loss. I have not heard the 22 carb limit though.
JamieLogical 8,710 Posted April 27, 2016 It depends on your program. My nutritionist never gave me a carb limit beyond the pre-op diet. She just gave me a Protein goal of 100 grams and by putting protein first and trying to hit that target, I didn't really have any room for carbs for a long time. Now I am in maintenance and get a lot more carbs, but still try not to do any "carb-only" meals or Snacks.< /p>
KristenLe 5,979 Posted April 27, 2016 I believe it depends on type of carbs too and their glycemic index. Talk to your Nutritionist - most plans vary. If you are having 22 gms of carbs in a banana it would be different than having 22gms in Pasta.
2goldengirl 2,076 Posted April 27, 2016 It entirely depends on your program. Some surgeons emphasize a very low carb approach, others don't. Mine doesn't, she gives me a Protein minimum and a calorie range. My carbs these days come from dairy and veg, mostly dairy such as yogurt and cottage cheese. I don't have much room for veggies yet. MrsSugarbabe 727 Posted April 27, 2016 I was given a guideline for Protein to focus on (100g/day) and told to keep carbs low. Since I focus on getting all my Protein in, there's little room for much else most of the time, and the carbs kind of take care of themselves in staying low. Most of my carbs come from skim milk, Beans, fruit (of which I eat very little).

jj7481 363 Posted April 28, 2016 I wasn't given a number by my nutritionist. Mine focused on getting Protein and Water first while staying in the portion size for the various stage I was in. In stage 4 I finally asked and her recommendation was no more than 20g of carbs per meal. This may sound like a lot but not all carbs are created alike. I also stick with getting my Protein and Water in first while eating no more than 1-1.25cups per serving.
breezy25 69 Posted April 28, 2016 My program wants you to have 15 g of carbs or less in the weight loss phase and they should be complex carbs. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
