Not calling me to schedule sx

Recommended Posts

This is my first time on here but I am having a hard time with my doctor not keeping me in the loop. I live in TN and the surgeon I was going have moved away. They told me at the, beginning I could have the surgery in a few weeks, which would have been the end of February. Once he moved, this new doctor is taking over and can't get his credentials till after June... No one is keeping me in the loop. No one seems to give a S@$! That I really need to know what is going on and when I can at least have some sort of an idea of when my surgery will be... Has this happended to anyone else?? Am I the I only one who feels totally forgotten?

that is so frustrating! I would keep after them and ask to speak to a manager if needed.

Here's the reason they can't tell you when it will be: The new doctor needs to go through a credentialing process to be approved by the hospital to do surgeries there. That process includes the hospital's credentialing folks to verify all his licenses , certifications, and his education, but then a hospital committee meets to formally make a decision. Those committees generally only meet monthly.

The surgeon's office only has control over how fast he gets his application in to the hospital. After that it's all on them.

The process is actually a protection for you as a patient, even though it's totally frustrating.

I have. The manager made a big deal about coming in to meet the new doctor. Told me that I would know answers from that visit.

When I went to that appt about 3 weeks ago, I waited to be seen for an 1hr. The doctor comes in and asks if I had any questions. When I told, him I wanted to schedule sx he said they would call me... That was 3 weeks ago!!

I just wish they would be so kind as to tell me something. Anything!! I spent over 1,000 dollars on testing for this surgery and I'm concerned it will never happen.

Are there any other Bariatric Programs in your area? It would seem that if you are being delayed so is everyone else waiting for him to get hospital privileges. How long will it take for them to get "caught up"? I would think about going somewhere else if you don't get a date very soon.

I think you need a little smile, so here goes.

I know that "sx" is an abbreviation for "surgery."

Still, every time I see your headline, I see it as "not calling me to schedule sex."

And then I giggle. Yeah, I'm a dork sometimes. ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
