How have you handled wls and caring for kids (very active 5 yr olds)? Is only my husband and I and no other help and I do everything and the twins want me all the time (hugs, laying on top of me for naps, etc) trying to think through the post op recovery period

I have a very active 4 year old. I'm waiting to get my surgery done this coming Saturday. And have been thinking about that. I have no idea to be honest. My child is very much attached to me. Hubby very busy with a 2 shift job. I am though waiting for a housemaid to come in next week to help with house chores. Interested to hear from others

Sounds like we're in the same boat! I have no idea what recovery will be like and am usually the one who does everything (hubs works a lot). And I usually pick my kids up from daycare as well. Trying to figure all this out without any added help from family or friends.

I'm in the same boat would love to hear replies from other mothers. My surgery is Friday. My husband works over the road m-f home Friday evening sat and sun. So I take the kids ( 4 & 6) to school and pick up. I have my niece to help me but she works and has a life too so I don't like to ask for much help. I cleaned the whole house top to bottom, washed all laundry, bought enough Protein and drinks to last 2 weeks. I will prepare food tomorrow and freeze for the kids. Hoping all this is enough to get me by and not need any help. I also took out kids clothes for the week so I don't have to bend and move to get the clothes out each morning. When is you all's surgery date?

I have my consult this Friday then could have my surgery scheduled 2-3weeks after (self pay). Best of luck to you on your surgery, I'd love to hear how you're doing and what recovery will be like on the other side of it.

I have three kids (4,6,10) and I do everything for everyone. But kids are amazing. I let my 10 year old know exactly what I was having done but the other two I just told mommy wasn't feeling well and wasn't going to be able to do as much for a while. Every once in a while my youngest asks if I can pick her up. It's hard to say no but you just have to. I'm one month post op tomorrow.

As far as the house work, I'm still playing catch up. My family wasn't much help! And for almost three weeks I wasn't able to pick up anything off the floor, I had a stitch That caused a bit of pain. The kids would pick up a little but the sweeping, laundry and other things kind of went by the wayside for a while. It felt like it was never going to end but it did. Kids really do adapt well and sometimes it's good to have an excuse not to do everything for them. My four year old is more independent now as far as getting dressed or getting her shoes on. I had to have them stand in their beds to give hugs and kisses goodnight because I couldn't bend down that low, but we all made it through. I feel pretty good now and excited about how much more I'll be able to do in the future for them because I won't be so heavy. A couple of weeks down was worth it. Also, last thought, my husband was out of town on business for a five days the Monday after my surgery (which was on a Thursday) so I was single mom for the week. I did have my parents help bring the kids to school and pick them up a couple days but didn't take pain meds while my husband was gone and was able to drive kids around by four days post op.

Best of luck to you all!

I'm 8 days post- op and I have a one year old. I'm unable to pick her up but my older daughters (10 & 15) have been excellent help while my hubby is at work. I get comfortable and then allow her to sit in my lap or on the side of me, I place a pillow over my stomach

I have 4 kids (4,8,10,12) and they were amazing. I have no one to help me either. My husband drives trains so is out of town alot. It was a breeze for me. My 4 yr old is all over the place and can be kinda rough. But as soon as I walked in the door after surgery I showed them my "boo boos" and my 4 yr old was always easy with me. Always wanted to see them and kiss them. Kids adapt so well. You will do great. Im 3 months post op today and my kids now have to keep up with me ;) Good luck on this beautiful journey. If you need someone to talk to just PM me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
