Hey Everyone!!

I have decided that I am going to be going to Mexico for wls in December (the only time I can get off work). I have had my heart set on the sleeve but I have moderate reflux and am terrified of it getting worse so have been thinking about bypass. One of the reasons I wanted the sleeve was because I don't like the idea of dumping which I know is more common with bypass. I don't want to have to live my life not being able to have a small piece of cake at my kids birthday or one of my grandmas awesome Christmas Cookies. Am I worried over nothing? Any suggestions?

I'm 8 months out, 140 pounds down, and I have recently started being able to have a bite of something here and there. Even better yet, after one or two bites, I am fully satisfied. I firmly believe in taking at least a bite of birthday cake for good luck, and I did so for my boyfriend's birthday just a few days ago. If you do everything right while you heal, and learn to control your cravings, dumping isn't any kind of issue. In fact, I don't think I have ever dumped. I was very careful. And I have no regrets. ^_^

I would ask your doctor to do a manometry test.

This tests your esophageal pressure. This will give you a better indication on whether the sleeve is suitable for you

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
