I am starting the process and have UHC insurance. I have to do the six month supervised diet. My question is this... I did a program through a weight loss clinic from June to Dec of last year. I have documentation on paper from them, but the clinic is no longer in business...do y'all think the insurance company will accept it, or will I probably have to do the six months over?

Mine wouldn't accept it. Even with documentation. It sucked! But I know it'll be worth it. 1 month down, 5 more to go!

I have UHC too. They did not accept mine either. Two months down, four to go!

So they required you to start the 6 months after you submitted the approval paperwork? Does your 6 months have to be with the surgeon? Obviously using my PCP is more affordable.

It doesn't have to be. My surgeon actually asked me if I would rather work with them or my PCP.

I'm still waiting to find it if UHC is going to accept my previous weight loss appointments with my PCP. Thursday will be my two week mark since submitting it. Hoping to hear something back soon.

Call them. Usually if reminded they'll do it that day!

When I called them they told me they would notify the surgeons office and I would be fining out from them not UHC. They were rude the day I called them. I've ready received a call from the nurse line regarding my "up coming surgery" so I'm assuming it is approved.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
