I went home the day after surgery, 2.5 hour flight. It was really pretty tiring and I just wanted to sit down but I made it ok. Make sure you have some Water and maybe a blanket. You'll be ok if you give yourself plenty of time so you don't have to rush to your gate etc., and try to have some help waiting for you after you land. You'll probably be ready to get home and lay down but you'll do fine.

Yes, have water/apple juice and maybe a blanket is good advice. I really needed to baby myself on the flight back. I did fine and you will do fine. Also, go slow. My best to you, B

4 hours is a long time to sit......Make sure you get up and move around a little to avoid DVTs. Maybe wear some compression knee high socks. ;)

Definitely get up and walk at every opportunity. Don't hesitate to ask flight attendants or other passengers for help with your luggage. Other passengers were happy to help put my bag in the overhead for me and to life my bag off the belt at luggage claim for me. People are really very friendly if you give them a chance. Ask for Apple juice AND Water to drink. Straight apple juice may be a little too much to handle, so water it down.

Speak to your Dr about DVT I would have thought they would have been giving you shots already to prevent it

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
