I just finished my 6 month supervised with PCP, but nurse will not schedule surgery until A1C is 10 and under. 3 months ago met with endocrinologist and she changed my medication A1C went from 9 to 12. I need to get this down before appointment on 6/2. Went to PCP had it checked just to see where I'm at it's a 11. What to do.....HELP!!!!

I would call your endocrinologist and talk with her. Are you on insulin or just metformin? Try lowering your blood sugars with diet, try and keep total carbs under 50g per day, makes sure at least 25g of those are from Fiber. Exercise, even just walking will naturally lower your blood sugar. If you start your high Protein, very low carb and walking now you will also likely drop weight. A weight drop of 5% can usually bring your A1C's down significantly. A1c's are a three month average, so it will take some work, everyday, but it's possible. You may need to have your medicine adjusted as well, but there is a lot you can do to get those numbers down too. Oh and don't forget diabetics best friend, lots of Water.

The problem with A1C is that it averages your numbers over a period of time. Getting it down to a lower number in such short order may be hard. Dang.

If you aren't using the Lose It! Or myfitnesspal app, start now. You'll really be able to see your numbers in terms of carbs, Protein, and fats.

And then do everything caweaome said!

Good luck!

Also- as an aside- since it is difficult to get that average down, perhaps your doc will allow you to do daily blood glucose recordings?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
