Bufflehead 6,358 Posted April 26, 2016 I did, it was taken out 24 hours after surgery. Not a big deal. Did you have specific information you wanted about it?

Bufflehead 6,358 Posted April 26, 2016 It's your surgeon's preference. Based on what I have seen on these boards, I would say 50/50 whether your surgeon uses them or not.
Mrs_O 118 Posted April 27, 2016 yes it seems to be what your surgeon prefers. i had one that was removed the morning after surgery. i was probably more nervous about the drain than anything else but it was seriously nothing at all!
melyssafaye 181 Posted April 30, 2016 I had a drain for 6 days after surgery. My surgeon doesn't typically use drains but he said that I had an odd fat deposit above my gallbladder. He routinely checks it during surgery to see if it ought to come out. During that process, the area began to bleed more than he liked. He said it was just a genetic oddity thing and not a big deal. So he put in the drain to monitor the bleed and prevent bleeding into abdomen. It was annoying and the main source of my hurting after surgery. Having it removed made me feel a hundred times better. Kindle 8,667 Posted April 30, 2016 I had one. Removed 3 days postop. Caused a little cramping, but more of an inconvenience than anything. Wore sweats with pockets to have a place to put the bulb and pinned it to the front of my PJ's so I wouldn't roll on it in my sleep. It was actually a nice peace of mind that I could visually confirm I had no internal bleeding or abnormal discharge (i.e. From a leak)
