I'm a grouchy kind of fellow. I honestly believe that half of the reason for that is I just cannot keep regular. I eat well, a fair amount of Fiber and supplement with Benefiber; but honestly only 1 in 5 BM's are the type that are satisfying. You know the type, where you leave the stall with a smirk and know that you have bested the commode instead shaking your head saying that next time will be different.

Lately, my relationship with the john has been one of menace. I step into the stall and immediately cop an attitude with the shitter:

But more often than not, I leave like this:

You know, head hung low in shame.

I'm happy to report that today, I have bested that porcelain SOB. Now I can't wait to go to the gym and weigh in for the week!

As Ron White said: "Have you ever taken a s**t so big it made your pants fit better?"

At one year out, what works for me, routinely now, no problems at all in this area, is 4-5 dried prunes and an ounce or two of dried apples every morning for a snack. I know they are carbs, but very good carbs and the body loves the nutrients. That, and lots of Water -- 100 oz a day.

I'm on my 4 th day of pre op liquid diet which is 5 shakes, broth, sf Jello and Popsicles and Water.

I used to poop 2 times a week. I know how you feel.

Now I'm pooping 2 times a day.

Where is all this poop coming from????? It's mostly solid too.

No kidding! I constantly feel there's plenty more there but it just won't come out! Any helpful suggestions would be much appreciated! I tried several types of soluble Fiber and they made me feel sick.

I've got a squatty potty and it helps. But honestly the only thing that I *know* works is real Fiber. Shredded wheat, apricots, figs, prunes, and fresh vegetables. On a high Protein diet like mine, they get neglected all too often.

Hmmm, just wait. When nothing but liquid is going in, eventually it will be liquid going out. I started on Day 4 Pre Op and still have it here and there.

I added some figs and dates as extra fiber and nutrients. One key I have found is a good Probiotic. I firmly believe my "gut health" ensures I'm regular. Making sure I get my Water and an occasional stool softener helps when I feel Ike I'm birthing a boulder or two. How's that for TMI? Lol.

You know, I've thought about this for awhile after reading so many struggle. I think more research needs to be done on the post-WLS nutrition plan, particularly looking at whether we really need all of the Protein. Now it's probably necessary right after surgery (and in your case BV since you are adding so much lean muscle mass), but I wonder at what point in the process does the "protein first" mentality need to end?

I had major issues in this department for the first few weeks. My surgeon advocates for a mostly vegetarian/vegan diet, so once I got to solid foods it has been smooth sailing ever since. I eat very clean... lots of raw fruits and veggies at every meal so with all of the fiber I consume, it's no wonder I'm good.

Ugh. The struggle is REAL.

I'm 6 weeks post-op, down 48 lbs and this is the part they did NOT tell me about. Right now, my surgeon and NP's directions are "more Water and Colace", and that's it. No added Fiber or anything at the moment. Well...it's not working so well. It's basically like birthing a b**t baby every 4 days or so. I'm having gas like nobody's business (sweet, sweet release. My poor significant other). Is it bad that I'm missing the liquid diet when things moved a lot easier?

There's a show on Starz called Outlander and we meet the King of France while he is having bathroom issues. With an audience! I could relate to his pain.

I always think of George Brett when I hear about great moments in the can...

OK, you'll have to clue me in. I don't get the reference. Comedian?..

Baseball player from the 70's and 80's. He tells a hilarious story about getting food poisoning and then finally being able to take a normal dump and how great that felt. It's a lot funnier than a post can make it sound!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
