Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

Hi everyone! My surgeon requires me to be on a 2 week liquid diet before surgery. I'll have 5 daily shakes of Bariatrics Advantage. Apparently I have to buy them in the office, and the bag cost $60. Has anyone else used this Protein shake? Can you suggest a descent flavor? I've never had a Protein Shake before. Also, have you been able to find it anywhere else cheaper?

You don't have to buy Protein shakes from doctors. They say that to make you buy their overpriced stuff. Body Fortress from Walmart will do just fine and it's only like $17 something a container.

The docs make enough dough, I'm not adding to their Mercedes payment by buying anything that comes out of their office. They are supposed to be doctors, not retail salesmen.

Protein is Protein. Get whatever shakes you like elsewhere. And tell the doc to stick to doctoring. <_<

I got my shakes from costco and they worked just fine for me. Tasted great, lots of protein and a whole lot cheaper. ;)

AMEN !

I second everything already posted ...

You can buy a container of Protein at the grocery store for ALOT cheaper than that ... and you can buy premade too ...

I like Premier Protein chocolate powder ... I mix that with an Atkins premade ... like a double shot !

Good luck !! :)

You got this!

I agree with the others - you don't have to buy their products. Find what you like as long as it fits with the carb/protein/calorie guidelines for your program.

I love the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein powder - buy online from their website. whey Protein isolate, very low carb, 100 cals./serving. Great support from dietitians and if you don't like it, they will take it back - 100% guarantee. I love the vanilla, chocolate splendor, unflavored, and when I don't want something sweet, they have a chicken Soup powder, just don't heat Water over 140 deg. or the whey will clump - doesn't change the taste, just the looks and texture. This is one Protein Powder you can mix in advance and drink it at your convenience, even 24-48 hours later.

Be creative with flavors and combinations:

SF orange drink made with Water, 1 serving of vanilla Unjury = dreamsicle shake :)

Vanilla and chocolate mixed with skim milk with a little brewed coffee = a not too chocolatey mocha shake

Vanilla shake made with skim milk and a squirt or two of your favorite flavor of SF Torani (or other brand) Syrup - I love the SF Black Cherry.

I've ordered variety samplers from several places to try and find Protein shakes I like. I've got a very finicky palate when it comes to the Meal Replacement shakes. I like that BariatricPal and Unjury have sample packs so you can try stuff. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
