So yesterday I had my last class which was the pre op class. And the nurse was talking about blood clots and infections and I'm scared as hell now because this is my first surgery and I'm terrified of getting a blood clot. Do they happen often ?

don't worry about all that.. that is something that Can happen.. does not mean it will..

that is something that can occur with Any surgery..

that is why it is recommended to walk about every 4 hours after surgery

@@biglady904 - you will be fine. get moving as soon as possible and do what they tell you at the hospital and at home.

Riverside or Southside? Both are excellent - I was at Southside.

It's like the RX commercials on TV...the rattle off every possible complication to where no one would want to risk it. Blood clots are definitely a concern after major surgery but there are ways to avoid them (walking, blood thinners).

As long as you get up and start moving as soon as possible post-op, you have nothing to fear. WLS has a lower mortality rate than knee replacement, which is really saying something when you think about the fact that most WLS patients would be considered "higher risk" for surgery in the first place!

both are rare. try and get up and moving as soon as possible after surgery and communicate with your nurses/doctors if *anything* feels "off"-don't hesitate-it's their job to look after you but they can only do so much-so communicate!

good luck!

If your that freaked out ask the Dr if maybe you should be taking Lovenox. Lovenox (enoxaparin) is an anticoagulant that helps prevent the formation of blood clots. I have mobility issues so my Dr had me taking the injections for 30 days after the surgery and they gave it to me in the hospital as well.

A lot of it depends on how health you are going in to surgery. The sleeve has the least complications. You will likely be fine.

Pre op after youll more then likey be getting heparin shots which help with Tue blood circulation and the leg preasurized pillows until your up and moving around nothing really to worry about as soon as your able get up and start walking this helps not only with the circulation but the gas which ultimately is wat majority of the pain will be from....good luck with your surgery

Ok, my surgery date isn't until May 26th and I am freaking out! I am a single mother of two and someone told me I should have a will just in case something happens to me. Now I know that I should have a will anyway because I am a single mother. It's the reality that something could happen and to be prepared. I decided to create videos for my family with instructions as to if anything was to happen to me. This is the hardest thing in my life that I ever had to do. Anyway is this crazy or am I just freaking out??

Surgery has risks but so does being morbidly obese. It's normal to be nervous but don't make yourself sick worrying.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
