How to get my water in?

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I had my procedure done 4/18, and started full liquids today. While I am thirsty and dying to drink my Decaf tea, I'm just not hungry.. do I need to force myself to get the water/protein intake? Just don't want to mess up my staples, etc from over drinking while not hungry.

You won't mess anything up with liquids, they slide right on through.

At 6.5 weeks out, I've never had any hunger. I eat because I know I have to. Yep, it's wierd!

I know it, I rarely get a tummy gurgle, but force the Protein shakes.. but my paperwork says to not make yourself "Thanksgiving full" so I figure if I'm full I shouldn't be drinking my tea/Crystal Light, etc. Ugh!

I still have to force myself with Protein 7 months out. Fluids are not a problem. It's hard for me to imagine this will change dramatically. Seems to be my new normal.

@@fullyalive - IMO key thing is the Protein so you will stay healthy and the Water is also a big factor especially early out because you do not want to get dehydrated. I would sip Water and only 'consume' (eat/drink) Protein on a scheduled basis...meaning if it had been atleast 3-4 hours I would "consume' (drink) a Protein shake.

Depending on who you ask, ANY liquid counts towards your fluids for staying hydrated.

Just follow your doctors orders and call them for validation.

I would still not drink anything for about 20-30 after I drank a protein/liquid type meal.

Good luck and welcome to the other side!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
