Just need to vent a little. I finished all of my dr appointments, nutrition classes, tests, psych, etc in a super small time the last few weeks because my dr said if I kicked it into high gear I could get the surgery in May. I already did my 3 mo supervised diet. I can't take work off at all from June 1 til July 15 because that's the crazy busy time of the year. Didn't think I'd get everything done so was planning on July. But when they said hurry, I did. I finished up and they were getting my papers ready for insurance last Wednesday. They said I should expect an answer in about a week and set up my final appointment with them to sign releases and get all the info to start my pre op liquid diet for Wednesday with a tentative surgery date of the 7th. That would give me 3 weeks off before I have to be back to work (I have a physical job with lots of stretching). Just called insurance co to see what kind of time frame they think and they said they had NOTHING from my Dr office. What the.... My biggest concern is that if I can't get this done now, I'll probably have to redo the stress tests, blood test, preggo test, etc in July since they will be old : (

Every morning at 10 am call your doctor's office and ask if the paperwork has been faxed in. If they say yes, call the insurance company and ask them. If insurance says no, call your doctor's office back.

The squeaky wheel gets the surgery date.

I had an issue with my insurance at one point. The doctor sent in paperwork and it got sent to the wrong case manager at the insurance office. It ended up sitting in a box for 3 weeks.

My doctor finally called and said here is the confirmation number for the fax I will wait til you tell me you have received it.

Just because Insurance said the Dr did not send info - don't take that as gospel. Call and calmly speak to the insurance coordinator at your Drs office. If they fax - ask them if the have a confirmation date/time and confirm fax #. If the sent by paper - ask them for date and address it was sent to. It's probably somewhere at the insurance waiting to be processed.

I had that happen and it turned out they did have my paper work but in a different department that handled it first.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
