Picking Goal??

Recommended Posts

I picked 63kg / 138lbs as my goal. It put me at the higher end of a healthy BMI, but I ended up far, far below that at 49kg / 107lbs.

I adjusted my goal three times in the past two years. For me personally, I picked what I considered reasonable goals, (a little high perhaps) then when close, adjusted my goal. I think this kept me from getting discouraged. I have people do both, and what ever works for you, this just worked best for me.

2 years 4 months post op

Totally at my 3 times adjusted goal

225 pounds gone!

Life is good!

I picked 130, but my doctor thought 140 was more realistic at my age. considering I weighed 115 in my early 20s and weigh 247 now, I would be happy weighing 147.

My "final" goal weight changed several times during this process, and I suspect it may change again. At first, my doctor's goal was to "just get you back under 200." That was fine by me, even though it was still very heavy for my height (5'2). Then I thought maybe 179, because that was 1/2 of my starting weight. Then I thought maybe 165 because that's 10 lbs less than I'd ever weighed as an adult and I knew I'd be a size 12 at that weight and that was fine with me. Now, I'm going for 136 because I got under 165 with just the regular bandster effort and am still losing (knock on wood). 136 is the 24.9 BMI cutoff for my height, i.e. "normal." I plan on having a thigh lift, so I suspect I'll lose another 8-10 with that. I'm sticking with 136 as my official goal, but if I wind up in the 120s, I won't be shocked.

I use the BMI for a goal weight.. Plus what I feel is comfortalbe for me.

Somtimes I feel I need to be lower than I am, then people tell me I look too thin.. So the extra 5 to 8 pds makes a difference for me.

So my goal weight was 125, and I normally weigh 120 and that is good for me.. IF I get down to 115,, to low and I dont look good.

My doctor told me 110... I'm 5'2'', and he did the 5 foot = 100 pounds, 5 pounds for every inch there after....

I told him he was insane, and 130 would suit me just fine. I want to see 130 then maybe lose another 5-10...we'll see. When I was 10 years old I weighed 110 pounds, I was a chubby girl, but weighing what I did at 10 seems unthinkable.

a

according to those calculations i should be aiming for 125... lol its funny cause when i was at weight watchers they told me at my height and age i should weigh 124!!! lol :biggrin1:

But anyways a lot of you are talking about what your doctor says you should aim for... my surgeon didn't just a healthy weight and he thinks i i put my mind to it i can get to any weight i want to be... He is very encouraging :clap2: (he was so kind and caring when i first got out surgery and still is to this day with asking us to keep in touch with him through email and he emails you back within 48hrs lol) sorry got a bit off topic there..:omg:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
