Flab-Fab 0 Posted April 25, 2016 Looking for some tips to get started with the process. Currently 5'7" 230 lbs I live in a little town in VERY upstate NY. My weight had been on the rise for awhile now. After 2 children it just keeps climbing. My youngest is 5 months old and I'm already up 25lbs. My doctor is quite miserable. I have gone to her many times asking for help keeping my weight down and all she can talk about is how she lost weight so I can too. May I add that she is a hypocrite because she doesn't know that ik she had her stomach done. So as she sits there and scolds me for being over weight and not being able to get it off, I have to resist giving her hell. Anyways I don't want to go through her I'm just done with her. My question is where do I start? Can I go around my primary doctor? Or do I need her referral? I just really need to know where to start. I'm desperate to be healthy and to be able to keep up with my daughters energy. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using the BariatricPal App
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted April 25, 2016 Welcome! Look for a Bariatric Center of Excellence near you and go to one of their seminars. They can help you figure out if your insurance covers the surgery and what their requirements are. I was fortunate in that my PCP was who encouraged me to consider WLS and referred me to an outstanding program, but, it isn't necessarily required. If your insurance needs a letter from your PCP then the bariatric program can help you figure that part out.
