smoking after having the surgery?

Recommended Posts

I was banded 6/29 - stayed 1 night in the hospital and was smoking the next day. My surgeon is not a fan of smoking, but does not push a person to stop. He thinks that a person sould deal with 1 problem or addiction at a time.

I too smoked the next day. As with any doctor mine was not a fan of smoking any more than I am of killing myself with them.

I really do want to quit I am just not ready to right this minute. And until I can put 100% into quitting it wont work anyway.

I agree! Don't start again now!!!! Why would you want to? You are an ex smoker!!

My doctors would not do the surgery if you were a smoker. You had to quit before he would do the surgery. I have been an ex smoker for several years now, so it was not a big deal for me, but for heavens sake, think of how much healthier you will be without all that crap filling your lungs!!

I'd pay BIG bucks to be in your position! You are an EXSMOKER! Rejoice! Enjoy the glory.

Sorry.. I'm not about to answer your original question... it isn't going to happen to an EXsmoker!

The craving will be there for years. There, you have it. BUT.. the worst part is over. Enjoy being a non smoker and go ahead, snub your nose at us smokers! And live to love it!

Good for you!!! Don't stop now. I quit smoking on July 11th. I smoked for 25 years and knew there was no way I could quit on my own (I've tried everything) I asked my PCP for Chantix, and it took about a week to stop. Don't get me wrong, I had a few hard days, but I did it. You should really ask your PCP for a month of it. It takes away the satisfaction when you smoke. I would say even the heavest smoker can quit using Chantix. If I can quit anyone can.

Good Luck and stay strong... You can do this

I also quit with chantix.

It only took me 4 days to quit.

My cigs tasted terrible.

It's a nasty nasty habit.

As a result I have started excercising again!

The air,energy are slowly replenishing.

I walked almost 2 miles yesterday!

It is worth it to quit!:clap2:

There are exceptions to the rule, but most smokers DO NOT, WILL NOT AND CAN NOT exercise. Like I said, not all smokers are non exercisers, but for the most part, they don't. That is why it is to your benefit to NOT smoke!!

Just curious (from an x-smoker myself) to know why in the world you would want to start smoking again when you have gone over 2 weeks without one. Your body is completely detoxed from the nicotine so this is all your psychological addiction, not physical addiction rearing its ugly head.

So true...my husband quit 8 months ago using Chantix and if HE can do it, anyone can. He had smoked for 20 years and at the time he started taking Chantix he was smoking over 3 packs a day and had NO desire to quit. He "agreed" to "try it" and within a few days he noticed that cigarettes started tasting bad, within 2 weeks he was down to about 10 cigarettes a day and within a month he had completely quit as the medication takes away the satisfaction of smoking. So think about it...plus think about how much money you could save and buy yourself some new clothes for you new body your are working on!

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
