...That's what I feel 13 days post op. WLS id life changing in so many ways. For the first several days post-op I focused only on the negative - what I was giving up for the rest of my life. Now I feel a sense of freedom from the never ending cycle of food dependence I once had - constantly thinking about when, what and where I'd eat - thinking about having to hide my eating habits from others, hiding trash, receipts, wrappers...you name it. Always with a sense of feeling out of place and abnormal because of my relationship with food and my weight. Now I feel peace--maybe it's because I've cut out all of the processed garbage, or because I have found a way to eat better that I am not white-knuckling through, or because I'm sleeping better because I haven't had caffeine in weeks--I don't know. But I'm hopeful and optimistic about the journey ahead. I wanted to post this in the pre-op area because there's a lot of anxiety leading up to surgery and the immediate post-op can be unpleasant to say the least. Just hang in there and know it can feel really good to get past those first hard days.

That's an interesting perspective. I am happy I had surgery, the weight is coming off, I'm getting rid of co-morbidities, and feeling better. But I feel more of a slave to food than ever. I never stressed about food before (unless dieting). Now I am constantly planning my daily food because if I don't stay on it I can't get enough of my requirements in. I also can eat almost nothing, so it's very frustrating. Interesting how people's experience differ so much.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
