I gave my supervisor two weeks notice that I was "having abdominal surgery" and left it at that. Since I didn't want to feel criticism from having my surgery in Mexico, when I followed up with my family doctor upon my return I asked for a release to return to work from her. The letterhead would have given the surgery type away clearly, so keep in mind if you really don't want to share your business your family doctor can write your release to return to work. I'm sure my boss was smart enough to put two and two together but I sent the message that it's not up for discussion and not affecting my performance.

I just got so upset I thought that HR gets copies of your hospital papers . I do not in any way want my HR lady to know my business . She's a bit yappy .

HR doesn't get hospital records. That's what I posted - HR only gets two statements from your doctor, neither of which have a diagnosis on them, neither do they say anything about surgery, for that matter.

And if she "yaps" about anyone's PHI, that's a felony.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
