ld33 94 Posted April 24, 2016 Not sure but I planned on asking my NUT tomorrow if I could even chew gum and when Sent from my SM-G928T using the BariatricPal App
perforce 243 Posted April 24, 2016 I was told not to chew gum as it makes your body expect food. If you're not in pain etc I would say nothing will happen. You'll poop it out and know better next time.

PissiChrissi 200 Posted April 24, 2016 So, I don't want to scare you, but you asked. I will preface this by saying I'm not 100% sure I trust the source here. I saw a nutritionalist/dietician as part of my pre opp. She said no gum because you can swallow it and they have to surgically remove it because it doesn't pass on its own. I saw a total of 3 dieticians during my process and they all had different info on everything. So who's right? She was the only one who told me about gum though. I would call your dr just in case. Might be super silly but better safe than sorry? Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App

Bypass patients (who don't have a pylorus, the spincter muscle between the stomach and the small intestine) may have issues with things getting stuck, but with a sleeve, the same thing happens as it does for those who've never had WLS: you pass it out your intestine unless you break it down in the intestines first. I've not trusted a single dietician I've seen yet. They've all told me at least one thing I knew to be incorrect because of my surgeon or because I knew it to be wrong. The question was asked though. And on the off chance she's right, no harm can come from calling and asking. You know? Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App
Lisa_85 118 Posted April 24, 2016 (edited) I never chew gum. I get the Listerine Strips but today I did and I swallow it by mistake this morning. I haven't had an issue yet so I guess I am good. lol Edited April 25, 2016 by Lisa_85
