Seriously need help meeting goals

Recommended Posts

I am exactly six days post-op and have been unable to meet my Water and Protein goals. It's not that I can't keep anything down because I can, but anymore than an ounce, I feel like I'm over doing it.

What are some tips or routines that have helped you on your journey early on to meet your goals? I'm still on full liquids.

And yes I will talk to my NUT tomorrow once they get into the office :)

one other thing Water still to this day one year later cannot drink Water I try but it just does not get any better I hope you have better luck found out water is very important but I drink as much as I can I need to brush up on it as well I try every day I wake up I tried sipping that works but I get busy no way I can finish a bottle in a few minutes like I use to sometimes I will drink to fill myself. I am never in the mood to cook so something liquid I mean water is really the only thing I have in the house if I add to the water is crystal light or mio I don't dare to drink any carbonated drinks it hurts my stomach once in the blue moon one cup coffee but with sweet n low and milk not black I am sort of a blan eater but may be because I lost 80 pounds in less than a year and exercise every day I went from 252 to 172 size 18-20 to 10-12 I am 5'11 and very active I have one horrible problem and that is peripheral neuropathy which I hope you don't have pain and numbness cramping in my feet . good luck with your journey and don't worry follow what you think will be good for you, have fun your going to love it I do .

I felt the same way you did. The first few days I barely got my Protein and Water in. About 40 oz of Water if that. What helped me was I bought the muscle milk pro series Protein shakes that have 40 grams of Protein. I made it a point to start my day with that. These are also low carb, only 7 grams. Once I finished, I felt great knowing I was already halfway to my protein goal. I would have another in the evening. And my then my protein goal was filled. My NUT said I could count that towards my water goal. Those 2 shakes total 30 oz already. Almost halfway to the water goal too. I drank water with fresh mint infused the rest of the day. And homemade beef broth, which was like heaven. Hope this helps.

unable to meet Water and Protein goals.

water is muchhh more important than Protein at 6+ days PO

if you don't get in enough Water (64+ oz), you'll fall on your face from dehydration!!

broth is a liquid, so you can count this now

drinking water (or crystal light) at room temp is a "trick" that might help

you can drink an oz at a time, that's fine for now

if you have a small timer, set that for 10, 15 etc minutes - then drink!!!

always drink slllllowly - don't overdue - no gulps for you yet ;)

never force too much water down at a time

take smaller sips, drink more often

it might take a while to reach water goal

that's ok, what's your hurry??

you'll get protein from your Protein shake soon

i recommend pre mixed liquid shake

ie GNC Lean shake 25gr High Protein Shake (swiss chocolate yum yum!!)

when you are on solids you can have Protein Bars

i love the Quest bars (dble choc chunk etc) yum yum!!!

later you will get more protein from chicken, (other meats too) fish etc

everything will happen in its own sweet time

i can tell you want/will do everything well

you WILL be a success!!

good luck

Sip, sip, sip, and sip some more.

Set short term goals: for example, finish 1/2 of a Protein Shake by a certain time.

Eat sugar free Popsicles.

Put protein over crushed ice and eat it with a spoon. I put undiluted ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates over a little crushed ice early out and it really helped.

Try different temperatures: warm broth, clear Soups, Decaf tea, Herb "tea", etc.

I counted all liquids toward my liquid total, including Protein Shakes.< /p>

Protein and fluids are equally important.

What helps me with Water is ICE. I bought the crushed ice from Sonic (the drive in fast food restaurant) and I munch on it all day. When I would drink Water I would get the full feeling but with ice I didn't

It's all trial and error after surgery. For me, I could only drink Water if it was ice cold. If it got too warm, the pain was incredible. I drank my Protein Shakes the same way. Ice cold. What you should do is get a small measuring cup. I have one that is 2oz. I'd set a timer for 15 mins and sip sip sip til I got through those 2oz and then set a timer for the next 15. It was a real struggle those first few days but remember ALL liquids count towards your water total, so you broth, your Jello, your sf Popsicles, your Protein shakes, your v8 juice all count towards that total. You are probably NOT going to meet your protein goal in the first few days/weeks. Just do the best you can. It gets easier the further out you get.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
