Hi there my husband had his sleeve done almost 3 weeks ago on 4/6. He drinks 4 Protein shakes a day with a lot of sugar free drinks. His Water intake is good, but he finds in the afternoon, he is lethargic, lightheaded, exhausted, gassy. He is quite miserable. We called yesterday, they said to add half a banana to his shakes, but that isn't helping. She was concerned he wasn't getting enough calories, but only a banana? He's back to bed now. Thoughts?

Honestly at 3 weeks I think that sounds normal. I didn't rejoin the land of the living until 5 weeks.

I was still napping every afternoon through my third week post-op. Make sure he is getting his Vitamins (including B12, which should be sublingual) and let him rest as much as he needs.

The three most important requirements after surgery are meeting the daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because the body is converting stored fats into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. So at the moment, he is still recovering from the surgery. It takes a little time to heal.

What about exercise. Is he walking for at least 30 minutes each day?

Yes, he is walking and exercising everyday. He is wondering if his blood pressure is low. I don't like him coming close to passing out everyday.

Is he on blood pressure meds?? That very well could be the issue - the often need adjustment fairly soon after surgery. I would definitely have it checked. Hope he's doing better soon!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
