Brenda Sherwood 64 Posted April 23, 2016 (edited) Just curious how long you took off work if you had a somewhat physical job? Im a poker dealer which requires tons of stretching and my stomache is up against the table all the time, bumping. My dr says only 2 weeks, Im thinking 3 or atleast I was until reading around this site, now Im thinking 2 months lol. Plus I have a 2 yr old to work with Sent from my SM-G900P using the BariatricPal App Edited April 23, 2016 by Brenda Sherwood

Dub 9,922 Posted April 23, 2016 I took 3 full weeks off. The biggest reason was to heal the umbilical hernia that was also repaired during my VSG surgery. I'm glad I did, too, as early in that third week, I was very weak and discovered my blood pressure was running crazy low.....low for the first time in my adult life. lol. A medication reduction and I was instantly fine and have been since. Had I just had the sleeve alone.....two full weeks may have been just fine had I not had the blood pressure issue to deal with, too.

finallyfree! 84 Posted April 28, 2016 I work in a cattery and am taking 2 months. This is major surgery. A leak can kill you. You have an enormous wound in your abdomen. The trouble is we cant see it, like if you had knee replacement surgery or similar. If you are able to have more time off then take it. Be very careful with your toddler as well as lifting a little one put someone I know back in hospital with a leak. Be kind to yourself and let your body heal. Stretching and bumping a raw wound does not sound good.
KindaFamiliar 3,867 Posted April 28, 2016 I took a week and a half off from my desk job...
Megall9 268 Posted April 28, 2016 I'm a grocery store cashier, and I was told by my surgeon that two weeks off was fine. I'm not allowed to lift anything over ten pounds until six weeks out. So when I go back I'll be on light duties like customer service desk, or express lane. I'll still be standing for four hours at a time at first. My manager has been great about everything, and when I come back she will start me with two shifts the first week not on back to back days, so I can see how I feel, and start upping my shifts from there if I feel well. Kindle 8,667 Posted April 28, 2016 I had surgery on a Friday, back to work Thursday. I'm a vet tech and work 10 hour shifts. On my feet all day, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling and lifting. Lab work, surgery assist, holding dogs, carrying cats, wrangling horses, wrestling goats and pigs. I had a 20 pound lifting restriction for 3 weeks so we didn't schedule any large animal appointments or big dog surgeries during that time. Back to lifting 40-60 pound at day 21. I had no problems other than being pretty tired at the end of the day. I was on a full liquid diet for the first 18 days so I just made sure to have plenty of fluids at work to constantly sip in between appointments. I added pureed fruit to my Protein smoothies and that really helped with my energy level.

Brenda Sherwood 64 Posted April 29, 2016 I am a dealer too! I'm still preop but I'm hoping all they say is 2 weeks, if not less.If you deal poker too, i definitely wouldnt go less. If regular table games like blackjack, I would think 2 weeks probably ok Sent from my SM-G900P using the BariatricPal App

Alison Terminesi 6 Posted April 29, 2016 I do deal BJ. I also deal roulette and midi baccarat which is a sit down game. If I ask for BJ and novelties for a while it might be better.
