Any husband and wife sleeve teams out there? Topic: Time between surgeries. Discuss! :)

Recommended Posts

We were also sleeved exactly one week apart. I was 4/4 and he was 4/11. It worked out perfectly! I was less mobile than he was in the first days, but I bounced back to myself a lot faster than he did. He was up and walking around sooner than me. He was even able to sleep in bed and get out of bed himself as soon as he came home. I was on the recliner for about 3 nights.

Was it the shoulder pain from the gas that kept you on the recliner? Thank you for your reply☺. I still don't have an answer from bcbs for my surgery and its making me crazy, lol.
I actually didn't have any shoulder pain from the gas. It seemed to all stay in my abdomen and made it hard to get deep breaths. It was easier to breath and move in the seated position. Also, the little guy in my avatar is a cuddler and sleeps in our bed, so he won that battle.

Have either of you had surgery in the past? Did you recover quickly?

My partner was shocked how great I was with surgery, no pain meds, back to work exactly a week after surgery and zero complications. But I knew from prior surgeries I handle it well and recover quickly so I was not worried. So judge by previous experience and go from there.

No, neither of us. For her recovery was very fast, for me not quite I had some aches and pains.

My husband had his two weeks after mine in December 2015. He has lost his weight. I've lost -88 with more to go. Remember that men lose much faster than women most of the time! It has been very helpful with both of us on the same game plan!! Best decision we have made in years!! Wish we had done it sooner! Good Luck!!

@@dallas23 thank you! My husband was sleeved one week ago today and is doing well, down 10 lbs. I am gowing this Wednesday, so 9 days apart. I feel like I'm going to have a heart attack. I'm so so so scared!

My husband and I will be a week apart . We think it will be easier if we are on the same foods together afterwards. We have 2 teenagers that will help us and family close by .

@@SusanB55 I was the same way! I never had any surgery until the sleeve and was a nervous wreck! It was so fast! I don't even remember the surgery! I stayed over night because of pain but the drugs they give you make it bearable and I am a HUGE whimp when it comes to pain. Oh and im very modest so THAT part was awful to me but they were very careful about keeping me covered. Seriously, best decision! ! I feel SO much better! So much more energy!! Follow the rules and you will do great. Hardest part for us was the liquid and soft diet but once that's over its all good! I still stick to the guidelines from the doctors.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
