Suzeee 3 Posted April 22, 2016 4 months after surgery battling severe Hair loss. Trying hard to keep cool about it but how do I deal with having to colour it? I know I should avoid extra stress due to chemicals but am young cant walk around all white.. Am also anxious that if I go color it at an eco hair salon by the time they are done my hair is all gone as it keeps falling in chunks every time I touch it... Thanks so much for your advice! alwest68 66 Posted April 22, 2016 I havent had my surgery yet but I am already taking Biotin and using biotin and collegan Shampoo. I can tell the difference and Im hoping to make it healthier before surgery. Alot of posts I have read said most people start losing it 4-6 months post op but by 9 months it is starting to grow back. I decided Im getting my done right before surgery and then Im just letting it go for a while and not do anything to it. I hope it gets better for you. Its only temporary. JamieLogical 8,713 Posted April 22, 2016 There's not much you CAN do, but wait it out. hair falls out due to events that happened MONTHS ago. There's nothing you can do right now to stop it. My Hair loss lasted about a month and half (3.5-5 months out) and then began regrowing right away.
rking 484 Posted April 22, 2016 i am having really bad hair loss. it started at 8 weeks out and i am now 5 months out. it is not slowing down at all. i started using nioxin consistently a couple of weeks ago but i feel if your hair is going to fall out it is just going to fall out. i get in 100 g Protein a day so it is not a lack of Protein. if i have to do this 4 more months then i will be in a wig i am sure. it is worth it though, the weight loss is awesome and diabetes is gone. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/362765-hair-loss-help-devastated/page-

Suzeee 3 Posted April 22, 2016 Thank you so much so sweet of you all to reply. It's my first post and it's touching to see the amazing support. Have lost 31 kg and still going down. Just overly conscious about my mane [emoji16][emoji16][emoji16]
KristenLe 5,979 Posted April 22, 2016 I haven't had surgery yet but this is one of the things I'm dreading. My Mom has alopecia and has worn a wig my entire life. I freak out at any sign of significant Hair loss thinking that like my Mom's - it won't grow back. I lose enough hair with my thyroid issues. Oh well - like you all said - it's worth it to be a healthy weight!
JamieLogical 8,713 Posted April 22, 2016 Really, in the grand scheme of things, a little temporary Hair loss is a *tiny* price to pay for health and longevity. Some people experience more hair loss than others. Some people have none at all. Most peopled do get immediate regrowth. If your loss lasts longer than a couple of months and you aren't seeing new growth, you could get blood work done to see if you've developed any Vitamin deficiencies. But if you are taking your Vitamins and getting your Protein in, you *should* have minimal loss and have immediate regrowth. Of course, if there are other factors at play, you might have to consult with your doctor.
PayItForward 207 Posted April 22, 2016 My hair started falling out around 3 or 4 months out. I thought for sure that I was going bald. I stopped coloring my hair to try to lessen the stress on it. And for some reason, when a handful of gray hair came out it didn't bother me as much as loosing colored hair. It didn't make sense but it seemed to help me. I'm a little over 6 months out and the loss has really slowed down. I went ahead and colored my hair last weekend. It's amazing how much fuller my hair looks now that the roots aren't gray anymore. Anyway, good luck to you. Try to not let it get to you. I know it's hard.

hopeful43 0 Posted April 26, 2016 I had my surgery on 11/10/15. My hair started falling out about 3 months out. When my hair is wet I look bald. I take all my supplements. I get in all my Protein. My surgeon states there's nothing you can do about it. But it's very unsettling and very anxiety producing. I have new little growth but so much is coming out everyday. I still get my hair colored and just grin and bear it falling out. Good luck. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

glitter eyes 1,398 Posted April 26, 2016 You can try adding a powdered collagen to your Water and or drinking bamboo tea which is high in silica. I do both and it has made a huge difference. My Hair loss has slowed way down, hair is shiny and soft again and doesn't break off as much.
