Hi all

It has been 4 years since my band was taken out and I've regained A LOT of weight, plus I've been pregnant and had a baby - so just really keen on the sleeve.

Dr Wong has said 50% of band to sleevers do not lose any weight at all.

Any thoughts?

That seems like BS to me. There are TONS of people on these forums who have been successful with sleeve after having their bands removed.

It may be that "Dr. Wong" has had patients, whether one or 50, who revised from band to sleeve and lost no weight, but he seems not to have given the reason(s). I've never heard what he told you. The only blanket statement I've come across is that those who started with band tend to lose at a slower rate than those who had sleeve surgery only. There, too, I can't say whether it's correct or what percentage of revision patients have the experience. (I think that the rate of weight loss is quite less important than the fact of weight loss.)

You may want to attend support groups at your local hospitals in addition to asking and browsing here.

He is incorrect. There are reputable published studies that contradict him.

You can ask your surgeon's twin brother (who shares the same opinion) that question; but "Two Wong's don't make a right".

-I know, that was a bad pun. I'll leave.:)

I would look for a surgeon who has a better track record. :)

I lost over 150# in 14 months after revising from band. I have been maintaining for over 3 years...

Hehe, thanks guys!

I think he is just warning me that my decision may not be as successful as I expect, and I get that...but he has a fantastic reputation and my own mum used him and looks great (but she never had the band).

I am so ready to do it but wow, imagine doing it with NO results. Ahhh.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
