Question on drinking liquids in week 1post op

So I am on day 7post op. After surgery I was told I had a thick lining for a stomach and it took three hours to cut n seal. This was because I had a gastric ballon before the sleeve he said.

Anyway now I'm on liquids and I thought I would be like everyone on here complaining I can't drink more than a sip. I can have a coffee cup full of broth no problem. And drink Water like nothing.

Is this normal?

I know I can barely get two sips of anything down. Not sure if that's good or bad, it's just my experience. I'm 4 days post op.

Four days post op I was bringing a bottle of Water n two hours like nothing and one cup of broth would go down n minutes.

I'm not having issues and I thinking did it work r not?'I would love to have someone who is further along come n and tell me later it is restrictive. I wanted to have this to restrict myself at least a little. Lol I have self control for now but who knows what will happen on a day I'm not strong

Later foods are restrictive. liquids pass right through your pyloric valve. The reason some people struggle with liquids post-op is because of the swelling and trauma of surgery. If you aren't struggling, it means your surgeon did meticulous work and you also aren't, for whatever reason, suffering the inflammation and swelling and bruising that many people get in their stomach tissues post-op. My guess would be that the fact that your stomach tissue is very thick (scar tissue?) has something to do with that -- it is not very delicate, so it didn't freak out like many people's do. Does that make sense?

I promise you, when you get to solid foods, you will feel restriction.

Not everyone has severe restriction with liquids early-on. Those who do, it's just due to swelling. If you can get your liquids in right away, that is awesome! You are one of the lucky ones!

None of us have restriction with fluids past a couple weeks post-op when the swelling goes down. You are just ahead of the game. I promise you that once you move onto more solid foods and are fully healed, you will definitely feel restriction.

Today is 8 days post op for me. I was really slow with the water/liquids the first few days. Made sure that I didn't do anything to cause any complications. Now I have no problems with liquids or getting them down/full feelings, as long as a take a few small swallows at a time. At the instruction of my surgeon at my 7 day post op visit, I am on solid (but soft) foods. I have been told by nurses/doctors everywhere that I needed to stay on liquids for two weeks, until my surgeon told me that. He told me that the idea is to have soft pureed food, and if chewed enough, you are essentially pureeing everything that goes into your mouth. I do get full extremely quickly.
