Dawnana 14 Posted April 22, 2016 (edited) Hi all! I was sleeved in March of 2012 and lost weight quick. I was able to get down to 120 from 220 which was mind blowing. I am now currently 155 and I am afraid I have blown my surgery. I work out 4-5 days a week and try to be good with food but I know I snack a bit more than I should. Has anyone done the 5 day pouch test diet? Did it work? Or is the sleeve meant to wear out after 4 years? Thanks! ld33 94 Posted April 22, 2016 Hi, my primary care doctor told me I should expect to lose, then regain a little and my body/weight would stabilize there. Dub 9,922 Posted April 22, 2016 I asked some of these questions yesterday during my 6 month follow-up with my surgeon. He assured me that everything should continue on for me as it has thus far so long as I did my part.....ate mainly Proteins with some vegetables and used crisp & crunchy vegetables as my only Snacks. He said the lack of hunger would continue and that by one year out my meal size should be one cup of food per meal. This is doubling the meal size I currently eat. I'm looking forward to the continued loss and lean living at fighting weight. I've sort done the "pouch test diet" in the past by simply going back to just Protein shakes for a few days here and there. It does improve restriction after each time of doing this. Healthy_life2 8,324 Posted April 22, 2016 @@Dawnana I'm two years out. My surgeons office said the norm is a 15 pound gain after hitting goal. They see larger gains on patients 2 to 4 years out. I've herd good things about the pouch test. It's 4:00am I quickly searched some of info. http://www.obesitycoverage.com/the-pouch-reset-losing-weight-after-weight-regain/

Babbs 14,681 Posted April 23, 2016 Hi, my primary care doctor told me I should expect to lose, then regain a little and my body/weight would stabilize there. That was from her experience with sleeve patients Sent from my SM-G928T using the BariatricPal App Yes, this happens more often than not. It's actually pretty normal. I've seen it on these forums over an over, and have personally witnessed it first hand with my husband and his sister. I'm kind of expecting it, although I'll fight it the best I can when the time comes. Although it can be a bummer to not still be at our lowest weights, I believe our bodies find their 'set point' after several years, and resists any loss even more. This has just been an observation of mine. I'm hoping I'm not too distressed over a 10 or 15 pound gain when the time comes that I can at least cut it off at the pass and hopefully be happy I'm not 235 pounds again! But we shall see
4MRB4PHOTO 3,900 Posted April 23, 2016 This is from the ASMBS: Bariatric Surgery Misconceptions Misconception: Most people who have metabolic and bariatric surgery regain their weight. Truth:As many as 50 percent of patients may regain a small amount of weight (approximately 5 percent) two years or more following their surgery. However, longitudinal studies find that most bariatric surgery patients maintain successful weight-loss long-term. ‘Successful’ weight-loss is arbitrarily defined as weight-loss equal to or greater than 50 percent of excess body weight. Often, successful results are determined by the patient, by their perceived improvement in quality of life. In such cases, the total retained weight-loss may be more, or less, than this arbitrary definition. Such massive and sustained weight reduction with surgery is in sharp contrast to the experience most patients have previously had with non-surgical therapies. Old habits and complacency can creep back in. No, your sleeve won't "wear out" in 4 years*. *Your mileage may vary.
beachgal2935 596 Posted April 27, 2016 At mayo we're told to keep the regain to no more than 5 lbs. We have support groups that meet once per month and a Facebook page to support one another. I feel it's one of the keys to success! There's a website bariatriceating.com that is run by a 15 year, post-op woman who experienced regain. They have a back on track program with great recipes and a Facebook page as well. Best of luck to you Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

VSGAnn2014 12,992 Posted April 28, 2016 Guys ... I think we always have a choice. And I know (because I'm old) that our thoughts and emotions affect each other and that both affect our behaviors. If we *think* a 5 pound weight gain is the limit we will tolerate, then we will *feel* differently about a 5 pound weight gain. And we will *behave* in accordance with those thoughts and feelings. I'm only 20.5 months post-op. I can't guarantee how I'll behave when I'm 4-5-10 years out. But for now, my intention is to remain at or below goal (150 pounds). I'm now at 135 pounds.
