Ashoryb 52 Posted April 22, 2016 Did anyone have their gallbladder removed at the same time as their surgery? My surgeon wants to remove mine at the same time and I was wondering if the down time is longer or if it's pretty much the same? If you did this will you tell me about your experience please. Elode 8,093 Posted April 22, 2016 @@Ashoryb Why do they want to remove it? Do you already have issues with it? If you don't have any issues with it already then there's no reason to take it out. I would flat out refuse. Research about the gallbladder BEFORE you allow them to do that. If you already have issues then that's different.
BurNingBriDget 28 Posted April 22, 2016 When I had mine removed it was a simple recovery. And my surgeon compared the recovery to having you gallbladder removed. You may have some additional pain but I wouldn't think that much. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
alwest68 66 Posted April 22, 2016 I had my gallbladder removed last May. I dont have my sleeve surgery until July. The doctor told me on my first visit that it was good that I had already had gall bladder removed because then I wouldnt have to have it done later. He said big weightloss causes gallstones and that may have been why it was bad to begin with. All the dieting nd regaining over the years.

SueAE 6 Posted April 23, 2016 @ashroyb I'm the same. I'm waiting on my approval however my doctor informed they would have to remove the gallbladder because of stones that would cause bigger problems down the road. Worried about the pain and recovery time! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
judymcd69 17 Posted April 23, 2016 Yes..........mine was removed during sleeve surgery as well as major hernia repair and lapband removal.. As far as pain and complications....I have had none other than certain foods going straight through me. I mainly refer to one of my faves...Greek yogurt. I may be eating too fast and will discuss this with my PA soon. I am curious as to who else has had these same issues. Please reply if you have. TKS
beggingtobehealthy 97 Posted April 26, 2016 I had my gall bladder out but couldn't wait to have it done at the same time as my sleeve. I am so thankful I had it out. I couldn't eat things like avocado and Peanut Butter for awhile but it was for the best. Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App
alwest68 66 Posted April 26, 2016 I havent had my sleeve surgery yet but I had my gallbladder out last May and everything I eat goes straight through me. It doesnt matter what it is about 20 minutes later it right back out. I havent went out and ate at a restaurant since. I always bring stuff home.
dgriffin93 3 Posted April 26, 2016 I just had my sleeve and gallbladder out on April 21. I had stones and wanted it out. My gallbladder was in really really bad shape when they got in there. It's a good thing we had already planned it. No pain and no additional downtime according to my doctor.
