npubander 0 Posted August 9, 2007 My insurance is BCBS of Michigan MESSA. I am a little worried about providing a weight loss records from doctors. I haven't gone to a doctor about a my weight loss because they said that even though I was overweight I was still basically healthy and in good shape. What will they do if I don't have a doctors record? What else do they usually ask for? I am going through a doctor who has his own insurance specialist team and can usually get it approved; however, I"m going to be WAY bummed if I can't get the procedure done for another year. I"m not sure I can live like this for that long!
Pam in MI 0 Posted August 10, 2007 I have BCBS MESSA too and am hoping to get approved soon. The bariatric coordinator at my doc's office sent me a copy of the "anthem" and as far as I can see there is no way I should be rejected. she also told me that BCBS is one of the better insurance co.'s for her to deal with. They have to make a decision in 30 days. I'm nervous too because I have been screwed by other insurance co.'s in the past. I just keep trying to be positive. My sister sent me the DVD "The Secret", and although it's a little hokey it has a great message about poitive thinking. So - every day I just say to myself "I will get the lapband soon." Anyway, check with your dr's office about this "anthem" thing. I'm not sure where my copy is right now to see exactly what is required. I'm sure the insurance specialist will get you the info yo need. BTW - where are you in MI? Are you a teacher? Who is your dr?
npubander 0 Posted August 13, 2007 Hi...no I am not in MI and I"m not a teacher. My dad is, he's a teacher in holt michigan. I am 23 and still in school so I am still covered by Messa. I am having difficulties with people in IL because they dont' know what Messa is and as soon as I say BCBS they assure me with a low BMI that I will NEVER be approved. Have you heard? What is your BMI if you don't mind me asking? Mine is a 34.9 and I have joint problems, high triglyceroids, asthma, zero energy, have problems getting to sleep and stay asleep, and have been overweight for the better part of a decade. Is your situation similar at all?
Meredith2424 0 Posted April 7, 2009 Hi, I see that these posts are from a few years ago. What was your experience with BCBS MESSA? I have just begun my process and am nervous about providing 6 mos. documentation.
