Giving up the scale...

Recommended Posts

Yeah me too. I weigh myself like every 2 hours. I got kind of depressed after 3 weeks post surgery. My weight was still. I visited the doctor and said I lost Water weight. So I gave up weighing myself and will wait to see results later on.

I think that's a great thing. I am five months postop and I do not weigh myself. Not once a day, not once a week, not even once a month. I get Wade when I go to the surgeons office, and the rest of the time I track my Weight loss with non-scale victories. My clothes are literally falling off my body, compliments from people who haven't seen me in a few weeks or months or so, and my own felt sense of the boundaries of my body getting smaller.

I decided to do this from the beginning because I didn't want life after surgery to feel like a diet, because every diet I've ever been on has either failed me or otherwise been on sustainable. That is why I needed the surgery to begin with. Since weight-loss surgery is a permanent alterations have the anatomy, it's the long ball Game that really counts. I do not need to know what I weigh from day to day. I just need to see a steady decline in my weight over time, and I am definitely definitely seeing that.

I just had surgery on 4/15 and have decided that I'm not going to weigh myself everyday. I know ..... crazy right!!!! I had surgery to become healthy - period and the last thing I need is another thing in my life to stress about. I'm going to trust in the program and see what happens. I'm not saying I'm not ever getting on a scale again but for these first few months it's going to be only at doctors visits. Anybody else out there not weighing themselves every 10 minutes to see how much weight they have lost?

I'm only weighing at doctor visits. I don't want to stress about my weight, I want to stress about wha tim doing wrong and what I can do to make it better.

I'm only 2 days post-op and was just wondering about weigh ins. Thanks for the insight. I did get depressed if I didn't see results before surgery, so I'm not going to focus on the number, but the goal of Water and Protein and health.

Definately put the scale away for a long as u can stand it! U will For sure feel a difference in clothes fitting and sometimes the scale doesn't reflect it. It made me depressed and now that I weigh once a week I feel much better!!

Not even going to lie, I confess and my sister calls me crazy.. but ever since I have gotten home from surgery I have weighed myself in the morning..

There are only a handful of days I can recall I missed weighing myself.

While I knew it was more than likely not the greats thing for me to do, I could not help it.. i was so fixated on seeing that number drop I had to check daily.. now, i do not check multiple times a day.. I am a once a day checker.. in the morning only.. now that i have lost a few pounds, the scale is not moving as fast..and I take it in stride.. but I realize I am not going to stop until I hit the magic number that feels right to me..

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
