How long after surgery did you get pregnant?

Recommended Posts

My surgeon is two hours away, so the doctor at that office is not my PCP. She told me I had to wait 2-3 years after surgery before getting pregnant because if it was any sooner, it will end in a miscarriage or severe birth defects. I think that this doctor is full of interesting "facts" on a lot of things, so I asked my PCP and Gyno about it and they both said 12 months-ish. No real worries if it happens a little before that point.

So my question is, how long after surgery did you all get pregnant? Did you have any problems because of the surgery? Thanks for all your help!

My surgeon suggested 12 months just so that everything has time to heal completely. My family physician said he's had lots of patients who got pregnant just months after surgery and there were no complications. I think waiting 2-3 years is a little excessive.

Thank you! I thought that as well, I really dislike the doctor they assigned me at the surgery center. She seems to not have a lot of correct info. [emoji53]

My surgeon advised 2 years. You give your body time to lose weight and are able to get enough nutrients and food for you and the bambino. I'm sure earlier is not as catastrophic as your Dr indicated (probably a scare tactic).

I was 2 weeks post op when I got pregnant... 20 weeks pregnant now and so far all is going great.. the hardest part is really learning my sleeve and what my body can handle but baby seems to be handling it all wonderfully

I'm 5.5 months post-op and about 98% sure I'm pregnant. Do you mind sharing how your surgeon reacted? Mine recommended waiting 12-18 months before trying to conceive, and he is very strict...I'm a bit terrified of his reaction, to be honest.

I hope it has all gone well.. my surgeon really had no reaction at all, just told me to make sure I was closely followed by nutrition.. 25 weeks now and baby girl and I are both doing great.. the healthiest pregnancy I have ever had!

I had surgery 3 years ago (gastric sleeve) and had a baby one year ago now. During pregnancy, for the first trimester, I couldn't eat much but thereafter I ended up gaining 30 pounds which have been so hard to loose. In part is because I can eat a whole lot more since my pouch has stretched...

Any suggestions?

@@Rosi10 Try doing the 5 day pouch reset - nothing to be scared about there - it's just going back to your eating plan immediately post-op.

I haven't heard of pouch reset before.

My surgeon said ideally to wait 18 months post-op to get pregnant, but that 12 months was ok.

I got pregnant about a year and 11 months after my surgery.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
