How much Prilosec are you taking? I have to take two a day... one in the morning and one in the evening. Is your heartburn worse after eating? Are you maybe eating too fast? I notice that if I eat too much or two fast, I get heartburn-like symptoms still.

I would suggest calling your surgeon and asking about whether you could/should take more Prilosec.

I am 3 years out so I don't know if my experience will help you. I had really bad heartburn before my sleeve surgery and apparently I had a hiatal hernia that was causing most of the issue. My surgeon fixed it while doing the sleeve and I had about 3-4 glorious months of no heartburn. Then it started coming back (surgeon said it was 50/50 of the hernia happening again). The only thing that helped me was Protonix. But I didn't want to be on that long term due to the osteoporosis side effects. I now take Zantac as needed up to 2x per day. It works to prevent (if I know I'm going to eat something that usually gives me trouble) or get rid of it within 15 minutes of taking it. Sometimes I have to switch up the meds because my body gets used to them. Maybe that could help you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
