Kidbxrs 2 Posted April 21, 2016 I just want to hear from others how long after they did what the insurance needed them to do. Like the 3 or 6 month supervised diet. How long after that was done did you have a surgery date or your surgery? My final weigh in is May 16 and paper work will be sent to the insurance. I should be approved fairly fast i would assume. I talked to my Bariatric Coordinator today and she said once the approval is back to her it will take me 3 weeks to get in to see the surgeon, then i will start my presurgery stuff and will take another 6 to 8 weeks for complete all of that. Does this seem unreasonable to anyone? 3 Months after my insurance approves me before I have my surgery???????
adashnau 22 Posted April 21, 2016 They set a date for me prior to sending it to insurance for approval, once I had completed all of their requirements. Insurance approved in a day and my date was confirmed.
Kidbxrs 2 Posted April 21, 2016 My surgeon wont even schedual an appointment with me until all my insurance stuff is done and approved then i have to do al of his requirements so around 3 months total they said. This just seems long to me. i have seen people on here that once they do the requirements for the insurance they have a surgery date within a few weeks. KristenLe 5,979 Posted April 21, 2016 My pre-op testing won't happen until after insurance authorization is received. I just found that out today too. I just hope it's not more than 4 weeks though.
cindyw41 761 Posted April 23, 2016 (edited) My pre-op visit was Dec 1st. Right after my last class for my 6 month supervised diet. My surgery was Jan 12th. I left my Pre Op visit with my date. My insurance didn't approve until the week of Christmas. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Edited April 23, 2016 by cindyw41

beggingtobehealthy 97 Posted April 27, 2016 My surgeons program is a bit longer than others but my insurance required 6 months of nutrition, a pulmonologist, a couple other things, then they tried to get it authed through my primary insurance which didn't cover it but my secondary came back after a couple weeks and approved it Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App Oh I should say I started the program in June 2015 and am having surgery today. So about ten months later Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App
