Sleeve to Bypass info needed

Recommended Posts

My story, I had the sleeve in July 2014 at 300 pounds, got down to 210 by July of the following year but have been stuck there since. Gain & lose the same 5 pounds no matter what I do. Have tried increasing/decreasing calories, switching up exercising, 5 day pouch reset - you name it I've tried it but I'm stuck and frustrated. It seems like my body decided 210 was the weight it wants to stay at. I never had the big weight loss from the sleeve like I expected. When people were dropping big weight in the beginning months, my was coming off at a snails pace. I also never felt like I had the tight restriction most people spoke about. When we started eggs, most were like "I can only eat a couple bites" and I could eat 1 without any issues and not feel full. I honestly didn't feel like I even had a surgery. I can eat anything without issues and more of it at a time than I ever thought I would be able to after the sleeve surgery.

So I'm not looking at possibly going for a revision from sleeve to bypass, but I have a couple questions for those that have been through it.

What is your restriction from the pouch like compared to the sleeve?

What was your starting weight when you had the revision and how much have you been able to lose since the revision?

Do you have any issues with foods after the bypass that you didn't have with the sleeve?

Do you regret the revision or happy with your results?

I don't have any issues with GERD, I'm just unhappy with my total weight loss. I appreciate any feedback you can give me.

I have much better restriction and it is much different than the sleeve

What was your starting weight when you had the revision and how much have you been able to lose since the revision?

I am now actually below mu goal weight I had surgery at 203.6

Do you have any issues with foods after the bypass that you didn't have with the sleeve?

Actually no issues at all I don't eat bread, Pasta or rice and don't intend to. I feel full quickly with Protein and have never had an issue with any kind of egg.

Do you regret the revision or happy with your results?

I truly wish I would have had the bypass in the first place. I have now been maintaining since January something I have never been able to do in all my years of dieting!!

I don't have any issues with GERD, I'm just unhappy with my total weight loss. I appreciate any feedback you can give me.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
