I went to my first consult and I liked the doctor a lot, 4 weigh ins and a whole bunch of doctors to see . He made it sound like a breeze no problem 3 days to recover and return to work in one week . Says I will have surgery after my last weigh in July/ August . Office was packed with patients already sleeved and only saying good things. So what am I missing I thought this was going to be a long drawn out process ????

I don't know that I'd believe the "3 days to recover and return to work in one week". Some people do, but by no means everyone.

In terms of how complicated submitting to your insurance may or may not be, I'd speak directly with his coordinator on that aspect.

Good luck!

It really all depends on your insurance and what hoops they make you jump through. Not all insurance companies require a bunch of pre-op steps. Some require a ton.

As for the recovery, that sounds incredibly optimistic to me! I know of people with desk jobs that returned in a week, but I wouldn't recommend it. I have a desk job and returned 15 days post-op and I was so exhausted in the beginning that I just went to bed as soon as I got home from work. Didn't really turn a corner there until I was on soft foods. So maybe if your surgeon moves you through the food stages faster than mine did, you will have more energy?

I absolutely agree. I only needed pain pills for two days after coming home, but I was flat exhausted until I got back on regular cooked foods at one month. If I were not retired at the time or had little ones to take care of, I could not have done it. My respect goes out to all of my bariatric brothers and sisters who have to get right back to their routine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
