New journey... New life

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum and I wanted to share with you all my gastric bypass journey thus far. I've pretty much been overweight since my two pregnancies. And it wasn't until I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia that the weight really started to pour on and life became a constant battle. I was on 5 different medications, which really didn't help with the weight gain. After about 3 years of medication increases, I decided enough was enough! I began researching Gastric Bypass on the internet. I had the support of my family and friends and my rheumatologist. I sought out a doctor in Montreal and this is where my journey began. I'm 5'1" and weighed 245 lbs. It was the first time I was told I was considered morbidly obese. I cried right there and then. Nobody wants to hear those words. I said "OK" let's get me healthy again...for my children but most importantly, myself. My surgery was booked on June 25th, 2015. That is the day that is tattooed on my wrist...the day my life changed...for the better. I did have post-op complications which turned out to be apparently life threatening. The doctor had accidentally put one stitch too many which closed off the intestine. What happens is that I couldn't keep anything down and was vomiting profusely... But the worst part was that all the (excuse the wording) shit that was supposed to be coming out down there was coming up through my mouth...I know...gross! Anywho, long story short...I was really ill and from all the constant vomiting, I developed 2 giant hernias. Second surgery July 9th, with a full on large incision right down my belly. Problem solved! Other than a few pains here and there and constant nausea, I am 10 months post-op and I've lost 102 lbs! I started in a size 22 pants and I am now in a size 8! I am currently on the waiting list for plastic surgery. I've gone from 5 different fibro meds to only 1! I'm healthier and happier. Life has new meaning for me. I was given a second chance and will forever be greatful, complications and all. Totally worth it in the end. Zero regrets! Happy to share with you all! XXXXXX

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
