Lol poor Houston :( My in laws live there but they are on vacation right now. I am not diabetic and I am drinking my shakes, I just feel like I have a dry mouth all the time even though I'm drinking something 24/7. It's strange

It could be a symptom of ketosis. When you are on a high protein/low carb diet, your body enters ketosis which can cause dry mouth and bad breath. As you are able to introduce more foods, it should go away. In the mean time you want to be very particular about your oral hygiene. Use mouthwash and invest in a tongue scraper. Oh! And you also might have oral thrush. I did post-op thanks to the liquid antibiotic I was on. Check your tongue for a white film near the back of your mouth. If you do have thrush, your doctor or dentist can put you on an anti-fungal.

Try Isopure...it is a no-carb Protein drink (packed with 40 g of Protein in 20 oz bottle). The sugary stuff I can imagine would make you thirsty. It has a slightly sweet taste (like sweetened iced tea) but it is actually very refreshing. I try to break stalls with them, and until recently that has worked (it gets harder and harder to break a stall).

It seems quite a few people have issues with Water unflavored, but when you add stuff to it, to me it seems to make me thirstier...

I found this Water a few years ago called MetroMint - its flavored but with NO calories/artificial sweetners because they infuse the water with the mint flavors - my favorite is chocolatemint second by spearmint... in texas they are sold in HEB - but I think you can order them off the website.

http://www.metromint.com/

I haven't tried it with Protein yet - but the chocolatemint or lemonmint would probaby be good with unjury's strawberry sorbet :D

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
