Met with my surgeon and nutrionist today. When I asked him how long I will need to take off of work he said 6 weeks. I definitely wasn't expecting it to be that long. It didn't take me that long after I had a hysterectomy. I have a housecleaning business and work for myself.

Do you just run the business, or do you clean houses yourself? I went back to work after four weeks to a desk job. No way am I up for cleaning houses, and I'm six weeks today.

I do both. It will be tough, but I'll figure out how to take the 6 weeks. It's just really hard to find someone dependable to take my place cleaning. Also, most the houses I clean only want me because I have been doing it so long and they know me well. I do have great clients though and they want the best for me.

Are you all taking paid short term disability leave or using your vacation or personal time? This surgery will allow me to take the STD and its paid so I will be in no rush to return

Got sleeved 4/11, going back 4/25 to a desk job. Was told no long-haul travel for about 6 weeks (primarily for lifting my own luggage). I will go on my first business trip May 5th, but it's only 1 night.

One thing my surgeon mentioned to me today at my post op follow up is that the time off isn't just about healing your body. The physical recovery is just one part of it. It's also about having time to re-learn how to eat and how to follow your bariatric program. When you're struggling to get through a day on very few calories, it is easier to make poor choice and/or skip meals because you don't feel especially hungry or thirsty. He said that people who push too early have a higher chance of never getting it right in the beginning and being less successful.

Personally, I felt so good at one week out, I went and got a job at a busy hair salon. I am dead tired after a 6 hour shift and often feel pressured to eat super fast between clients and don't meet my Protein goal or Water goal. I'm 3 weeks out and my surgeon thinks I made a bad decision.

I plan on going back after two weeks, but will be "light duty" for the following four weeks. I'm a nurse manager, so I can do most of my job, but the "light duty" will mean that I won't be able to take a patient assignment....my surgeon recommends no lifting over 10 pounds for 6 weeks. Needless to say, that definitely rules out ICU nursing! LOL

I'm taking off one week and then working from home for one week then going back to the office the following week. Our disability doesn't even start until after you are out 10 working days so I'm not even applying for it.

Had surgery on a Wednesday went back to work on next Monday desk job. I can't imagine how anyone needs any more time off I mean if you're just sitting down at a desk job. I think I would've walked more and been more active honestly if I took time off... Funny truth. Most of my coworkers thought that I had a long weekend away.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
