Bariatric exercise program?

Recommended Posts

It's required that i visit the bariatric exercise program twice before i can have my surgery, I'm kind of nervous about it because i don't like being watched while i exercise, i'm just wondering what goes on in these things, can someone share their experience with this? what do they have you do exactly? do they give you exercising tips?

For my program I have to visit with the exercise physiologist associated with the bariatric program. My first visit I weighed in, the specialist and I discussed my prior and current activity level, what type of exercise I liked. I answered questions then we discussed an exercise plan going forward. At the end of the appointment I was given an informational package with handouts.

I'm not actually required to go to the exercise lab, but it's strongly encouraged, and I had my first visit today. The hospital where I'm having surgery is associated with a huge university, and the Human Performance Lab is primarily run by exercise physiology students, so I felt a bit like a guinea pig :P Their initial evaluation includes an EKG, stress test, body fat measurement, and full health history, and after all that they design you a well-rounded workout regimen (cardio, strength, flexibility) that isn't too hard or too easy. Then they serve as personal trainers to guide you through it, make sure your technique is good and you're not going to hurt yourself, stuff like that. It's pretty neat, much more personal than a "real" gym, and I hope it turns out to be a good fit for me. I'm like you, rather self-conscious about exercising in front of people, but the students were great and helped me feel comfortable. They see a lot of bariatric patients so it's really no big deal for them. I like that I'm also kinda helping them learn as well. :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
