Cramps everytime I consume something

Recommended Posts

I am 13 days post op the bypass and it honestly has seemed like I've had cramping everytime I consume something since I came home. Is this normal, this is with Protein shakes, and Soups and Water. It doesn't happen with Popsicles but with everything else. What could this be or is this normal?

I had cramping followed by diarrhea after RNY surgery. I became lactose intolerant. Anytime I consumed milk or anything else that contained lactose (some Protein drinks contain lactose), I had an immediate problem. This condition went away after a couple months.

I had the same issue. Every single thing I consumed, from Soup, to Water, to yogurt, made my stomach cramp and hurt. Didn't matter what I did to try to help it. Fortunately, my issues passed after a few months as well. Maybe 4 or 5. Now I can tolerate most things. :)

Yea I considered that being that I am lactose intolerant to milk, but like I said it's even with Water alot of times. Do I just let it ride out or maybe get some lactose intolerant supplement? Or are there any ready made Protein shakes made with soy?

So what did you do to get through it? Or did you just let it ride out?

@@baconsher I rode it out. Whining about it made me feel slightly better. :P I also found that sometimes changing the temperature of the food/liquid reduced the cramping. I couldn't drink cold Water for a long time, but room temp or even just a little warm was often easier to stomach.

I went through the same thing. My bad feeling was coming from the type of potassium I was taking. I was given a different kind and the problem went away. Unfortunately, some of us have bad side effects from having the surgery. The good thing is everyone says it does get better. I am on may way to having normal days again. You will get there please just hang in there.

Too hot or too cold can cramp your pouch. Also too much at one time. I know it's easy to forget to sip and not gulp. Maybe slowing down will help. It takes me 30-40 minutes to consume an 8oz Protein Drink, sometimes longer if my pouch is cranky.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
