Hi I had surgery April 13

Exactly one week ago.

I've been doing fine trying my best to get fluids and Protein grams my body needs, but my emotions have gone crazy. At one moment i'm myself happy and the other i'm either really angry or extremely sad and crying. I've had a few crying episodes where I first get so angry I start screaming at my husband ect... and (yeee poor him but I cant help it) he gets disappointed and starts saying he can't live with me like this(I do ask him to be supportive, but he really hasn't been and isn't being as supportive as I thought he would be) then when he tells me he can no longer stand me and my anger I shred in tears and start to cry and thinking of how difficult my life is at the moment; however later i'm perfectly fine and happy with my life. I have my post up apt next week and will ask for counseling as i've heard emotion episodes can after Gastric bypass surgery.

Any advice anyone?

It is perfectly normal. Your hormones are all out of control. Why don't you call and schedule a counseling appointment now? You could also look into support groups. It will get better so stay strong and when you feel like yelling at your husband - go for a walk instead. Good luck!

My surgery was the same day. I am having the same mood swings. I can literally go from the happiest person in the world to the biggest bitch in less than a second. My husband is an amazingly supportive, patient man but even he has blown up on me once. I think the emotions are normal. Our bodies have been through a lot. I'm sure it will level out in the coming weeks.

I Just opened up my account this morning and i'm already loving this app.

Its like being at a support group. Thank You so much for all advice!

Makes me feel better because i'm not alone and now I know there are people out there that are going through the same situation

After surgery, your body begins to break down the fat cells in your body. Within these fat cells are also stored chemicals and hormones. Thus as you lose weight you can get a flush of emotions. This will get flushed through your kidneys and expelled in your urine but you can still feel the effects while you are in the "weight loss phase". For this reason it is important to drink a lot of pure Water so that you body can flush these from your system. You might focus on using filtered Water rather than tap water.

Thanks so much

I was unaware that hormones are stored in fat cells as well. Now I understand.

I will call the doctors office tomorrow and schedule for counseling. I'll also ask for the next support group meetings information and try my best to go to as many as I can. I did go to the required 2 support group meetings pre op and loved how you ask questions and also hear other peoples story and or questions.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
