Just n ear

Recommended Posts

I'm 6 months post 10/30/15. I have lost 103 lbs. I have great support from family n friends.. But I'm slipping...when at work I have Debbie, my fat girl inside my head saying I can eat anything now.. Go ahead, eat Cookies, or anything sweet. I want to punch Debbie.. ..how do I stop mindless eating of bad things? It's almost like I'm getting positive feedback on my weight loss, and I just want to ....eat.......what to do? Just kinda stuck...

It would be a great idea for you to spend time with a therapist exploring just why you are sabotaging yourself now, after six months of effort and success.

There may be something frightening for you in being successful long term. You definitely wouldn't be the first.

Don't punch yourself - talk with "Debbie". Ask her what she needs that she's not getting. Or what she's getting that scares her.

I agree. Talking with a counselor or therapist sounds like a good idea. You might also want to consider attending support group meetings and/or 12-step recovery program like (OA.org).

You have had a lot of success so far, there is no reason you can't continue to make progress.

After you leave the "weight loss" phase, you will slide naturally into the "maintenance" phase. For me this occurred at around the 6 or 7th month post-op. But it will vary by individual. This article describes my approach in the "maintenance" phase. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery2.pdf

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
